Daytona International Speedway

Daytona did not end up like we had hoped.

Michael

#88  Dale Ernheart - who we want to win!!!
The rain would just not stop.  For the first time in 52 years, the Daytona 500 was canceled.  Rodger, Michael, Nanna, Yasmina, Uncle Steve, cousin Jake, cousin Natalie, cousin Laura, cousin Anthony and Aunt Janet all left at 9:00 in the morning and sat around all day in the rain.

The only thing they got to see was a few fire trucks and some really big blow dryers that were trying to dry the track.  But the rain refused to cooperate.

The officials finally canceled the race about6:00pm.  So they all walked the 2 miles back to the cars in the rain and headed back to Aunt Janet’s house.  It was not a total loss however; the girls got to spend some more time with the family and finally got to meet Uncle Steve.
It is now Monday night and the race is on!
We all have front row seats right here in the family room!
Go #88 – Dale Ernheart!

Making Valentine's

Today after softball practice the girls informed me that they wished to make Valentine’s for their friends.  The key words here are THEY & MAKE.  J  So after diner their dad took them to the 7 Day Store to buy some candy.  When they got home they asked me if I had anything that they could use to make Valentines.  For those of you who may not know me well, I was Martha Stewart before Martha was!  So we went searching in my craft room.  I came up with pretty pink and red paper, pretty pink and red cellophane bags that self sealed, ribbon, stamps and stamp pad in every color in the rainbow, scissors that have special edges on them so when you cut out heart shapes it looks pretty whole punches and markers.  They immediately got started and I left them to it.

After about 30 minutes I went in and checked on them.  Lets just say...
they needed a little bit of help from Martha.  ; )

We ended up making 30 Valentines assembly line style.  It was fun!

Made me realize how much I missed doing things like that with my children.  Needless to say, their homemade Valentines look fabulous!

Can’t wait for Saint Patrick’s Day!

Movie Day with the MAG

Yesterday afternoon, Sunday, the girls and I went to help out at the MAG-31 family day.  (MAG-31 is Rodger’s unit.)  The MAG was having a movie day at the base theater.  The movie was The Adventures of Tin Tin.  Along with the movie there was free popcorn, soda and candy and an arts and crafts project for the kids, which Nanna helped out with...

...and face painting that Yasmina helped with.
Both girls helped set out tables and chairs.

They were such good sports and chipped
right in wherever needed!
Yasmina, Amy and Nanna
(Amy is their friend and her dad is the Commanding Officer of the MAG)

They sure do make good volunteers!
